You may have watched the Rose of Tralee but something you may not know is, that the winner of the Escort of the year was Peter Sands a Young Catholic Man from Belfast, he is an active member of Youth 2000 Ireland to which he is the regional leader for Ulster where he takes an active role in organising retreats and supporting prayer meetings across Ulster.

He went through a lot to be the winner, he firstly had to raise at least €2.500, for 1 life, then he was put through he’s paces at the Escort Boot Camp. Finally he fulfilled his duties which was to look after his Rose, who was the New Zealand Rose Ailbhe Ryan, to Accompany her to the Gala Rose Ball and to the Rose Parades.

After winning he had this to say “It’s been a very humbling experience and I think the only one happier than me right now is my Mummy and I’m sure there’ll be tears as well. There’s 31 other guys that I would put forward just as quickly. I’m very surprised to be here and I really didn’t expect it.”

Well during this time Peter show himself to be a brilliant Escort and amazing Catholic Role Model and showed us men how to be true Catholic men and showed the ladies what to look out for in a man .

So from all at Catholic Maynooth Well done Peter and enjoy your €1000, and your symbolic Pilot Training College jacket and those flying lessons
